Itinerary
Pick up from Christchurch approximately 11am enjoy the journey south through farmland stopping at east coast townships on the way to Dunedin. We stay at a hotel in central Dunedin and enjoy a meal together tonight. D
After breakfast we travel south to start our expedition on the Scenic Southern route. Explore the attractions of Owaka Township, take a walk at Nugget Point where there are spectacular coastal views. We will overnight at our accommodation where there is a dining and bar complex, located off the beaten track in the heart of the rugged and beautiful Catlins. B,D
Depart after breakfast to see more scenic points of interest on our way to Invercargill, like Slope Point, the southernmost point of the South Island, and the fossilized forest at Curio Bay, as we follow the southern coastal route to Invercargill. Get a bite of lunch before strolling around at the Bill Richardson transport museum before checking in to our accommodation and later an evening meal out with your group. B,D
Depart after breakfast for the big day out at the Bluff Oyster Festival, we take our own vehicle to Bluff and enjoy the festival all day. Return to our accommodation with a free night to do as you please. B
A leisurely start to the day before catching our plane to Stewart Island, enjoy an afternoon minivan tour exploring landmarks and hear the history of Oban, then spend time exploring, or just absorb the tranquillity of the island. In the evening, we will experience some southern hospitality with dinner at the South Seas Hotel. B,D
Enjoy a leisurely breakfast with views of native bush and the friendly kaka who visit the Lodge veranda for treats before we visit Ulva Island, strolling around the excellent walking tracks amongst predator free podocarp forest, home to many endangered species. Return to Oban township where we will have lunch before flying back to the mainland for our short drive to stay in the Riviera of the South - Riverton. B,D
After breakfast we drive to Gore with visits to the museum, Eastern Southland Art Gallery, Mandeville Aircraft museum for lunch and stops at other points of interest, great views of Lake Wakatipu on the way to Queenstown. We will drop you off at your accommodation in Queenstown approximate time by 5.30pm. B
